In the fall of 2014, the life of 37-year-old Shannon Chatman Puryear was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Shannon was fatally shot by her estranged husband, 39-year-old Anthony Puryear. The couple was reportedly going through a divorce, and Shannon had moved into a separate residence. On the evening of her death, Anthony followed her as she drove, leading to a desperate attempt by Shannon to escape. She veered her vehicle through a median and off the road, crashing into a local business.
Following the crash, Anthony Puryear approached his wife's vehicle and fired the fatal shots before taking his own life at the scene. Shannon Puryear was transported to University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Anthony Puryear, an active duty soldier in the Army, was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple had one daughter together, and Shannon had another daughter from a previous relationship. There was no prior record of domestic violence associated with Anthony Puryear. The incident left a community in mourning and a family to grapple with the devastating loss.
