In the spring of 2020, the life of 60-year-old Rebekah 'Becky' Wortman was tragically cut short in what police have described as a murder-suicide. On Friday, April 10, 2020, Wortman was found deceased in her south Louisville, Kentucky, home. She died from a gunshot wound inflicted by her husband, John Wortman, who then took his own life.
Authorities with the Louisville Metro Police Department identified John Wortman as the suspect in his wife's death.
The incident was investigated as a case of domestic violence, tragically highlighting the concerns of local organizations about an increase in such violence, particularly during a time when many were confined to their homes.
Rebekah Wortman, formerly of Leitchfield, was remembered by friends and colleagues for her warm and bright smile. She had worked for over a decade at a local tax office, where she was known for her crafty and giving nature, often creating handmade gifts for others. She was an employee of Flex Films in Elizabethtown and Jackson-Hewitt Tax Service at the time of her death. Due to the nature of the incident, with the suspect also being deceased, there were no arrests made in the case.
