In the late evening hours of Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the life of Juanita Lynette Watkins, a 52-year-old female, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. The incident occurred in the Algonquin neighborhood, where police were dispatched to the 2300 block of West Gaulbert Avenue around 10:20 p.m. following a ShotSpotter notification. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Ms.
Watkins had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit has opened an investigation into the shooting death of Juanita Watkins. At this time, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to seek information from the public to help piece together the events that led to her untimely death.
Juanita is remembered by her surviving family, which includes her children, Elexis Hall, Niesha Watkins, Anthony Hall, Jr., Darneisha Watkins, Indie Watkins, and Paul Watkins, as well as her mother, Vanessa Rucker. She was preceded in death by her son, Derrick Washington. Her family and friends gathered for her funeral service and she was laid to rest in Green Meadows Cemetery.
