In the summer of 2022, a promising life was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. Darriona Renee Jones, a 20-year-old female, died on July 24, 2022. At the time of her death, she was pregnant with a son, who was to be named Kasyn.
On that Sunday evening, just before 9 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in the 3200 block of Melody Acres Lane. Upon arrival, they discovered Darriona suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, but tragically, both she and her unborn child succumbed to her injuries.
The events leading up to the fatal shooting began with a verbal altercation between Darriona and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Devin Minor. According to court records, Darriona's mother witnessed Minor with a handgun and, in an effort to de-escalate the situation, took the couple's other child outside to call the police. It was then that she heard a gunshot. As Minor was leaving the apartment, he allegedly intimidated her to prevent her from calling the police. When she went back inside, she found her daughter shot.
The day after the shooting, Louisville Metro Police arrested Devin Minor. He was charged with murder, fetal homicide, and intimidating a participant in the legal process. Minor entered a plea of not guilty to the charges, and a judge set his bond at $1 million.
