Just before dawn on Friday, August 16, 2024, 34-year-old Yailin Casales Espinel, a Cuban woman living in Louisville’s Bon Air neighborhood, was beginning an ordinary day in her apartment on Liverpool Lane when violence erupted. Around 5 a.m., neighbors in the quiet complex awoke to the sound of gunfire, and officers with Louisville Metro Police were called to the 2200 block of Liverpool Lane, just off Bardstown Road.
