In a quiet Louisville, Kentucky neighborhood, the life of 11-year-old Brianna Stanton was tragically cut short on a December day. On the morning of Saturday, December 3, 2022, police were called to a home on East Pages Lane for a report of a shooting with multiple victims. Inside, they made a devastating discovery.
Brianna, her 17-year-old sister Andrianna Stanton, and their 49-year-old mother Mary Stanton, were found deceased from gunshot wounds.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Brianna had been shot once, while her mother and older sister had been shot multiple times. The family was part of a Kenyan immigrant community in Louisville, and Mary, a registered nurse, was described as ambitious and hardworking. Brianna was a student at Noe Middle School, where she was remembered as being full of life and able to get along with everyone.
The investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department quickly pointed to a grim conclusion. Authorities identified the fourth deceased individual in the home as 60-year-old Gary Stanton, Brianna's father and Mary's husband. Evidence indicated that Gary Stanton was the primary aggressor in the incident. It is believed that he shot and killed his wife and two daughters before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide.
Family members were left shocked and devastated by the sudden loss, stating that there were no apparent signs of trouble leading up to the tragedy. Just a month prior, the family had traveled together to Seattle for the memorial of Mary's father. The motive for the horrific act remains unclear, leaving a community to mourn the senseless loss of a family, including a young girl with a bright future ahead of her.
