In the summer of 2019, the life of 17-year-old RobinDion O'Bryant was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On the night of June 23rd, O'Bryant was in a vehicle with friends when gunfire erupted. The shooting took place near the corner of Parthenia and Carlisle Avenues in the Jacobs neighborhood. When police arrived, they discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims.
A few blocks away from the initial scene, on Wheeler Avenue, officers found O'Bryant inside a vehicle, having
sustained a fatal gunshot wound to her face. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Another young woman in the car was also shot but was expected to recover from her injuries. In an alley on Seelbach Avenue, police found another victim, 17-year-old Jerome A. Miles, Jr., who had been shot multiple times. He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries. At the time of her death, RobinDion had recently graduated from Fairdale High School and was enlisted in the National Guard. The day after she was killed would have been her 18th birthday.
The investigation into the double homicide led Louisville Metro Police to 18-year-old Shawn L. Hollingsworth. It was reported that Hollingsworth was a former middle school classmate of O'Bryant. He was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree assault. In November 2022, a jury found Hollingsworth guilty of the murder of RobinDion O'Bryant and the assault of the other young woman in the car. The jury recommended a life sentence for the murder charge and an additional 20 years for the assault, to be served consecutively.
