In the fall of 2018, a quiet and caring mother and grandmother named Dana Hodges, a 50-year-old female, found her life tragically cut short in an act of violence that shattered the peace of a Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. On September 30th, outside the North Central Church of Christ in the Shawnee neighborhood, the church she regularly attended, she was fatally shot.
The coroner later confirmed that her death was the result of a gunshot wound.
The moments leading up to her death were fraught with fear, as she had sought legal protection from her ex-boyfriend. Recognizing the potential danger he posed, Hodges had obtained an emergency protective order against him. Despite this precaution, her ex-boyfriend located her at the church they had once attended together. After shooting Hodges, the man turned the gun on himself in an attempted suicide.
Law enforcement arriving at the scene at the intersection of 35th and West Main Streets discovered Dana Hodges deceased. Shortly thereafter, they found the suspected shooter nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment. The incident was investigated by the police as a case of domestic violence culminating in a murder and attempted suicide.
