In the fall of 2018, the life of Vickie Lee Jones, a 67-year-old Black woman, was tragically cut short in what appeared to be a senseless act of violence. On the afternoon of October 24, Jones was at a Kroger grocery store in the Louisville suburb of Jeffersontown when she was shot and killed in the parking lot. She died from multiple gunshot wounds in a tragedy that also claimed the life of another shopper, Maurice Stallard, who was shot inside the store.
