In the late hours of Labor Day, September 1, 2025, the life of 36-year-old Ashley June Lanham, a white female, was tragically cut short in a shooting that occurred in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. The incident took place just before 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Brook Street, near Broadway. When officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Lanham suffering from a gunshot wound.
They immediately began to render aid until emergency medical services arrived.
Lanham was rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after her arrival. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed her identity. In the wake of her death, Lanham's family described her as a deeply compassionate woman with a smile that could light up the night sky. They revealed that she had been experiencing homelessness for over a decade, a struggle that began after the death of her father and was compounded by mental illness.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. At this time, there are no known suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with Lanham's death.
