In the a neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, on July 11, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm and tragically ended a life. When officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department arrived at the 1100 block of South 17th Street, near California Park, they found Jermaine Thompson, a 32-year-old male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Thompson's death was a homicide resulting from the gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to two individuals. Jaquan McWilliams, who was 19 years old at the time, was identified as a suspect and subsequently arrested. His alleged accomplice, William Harris, was also identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The case eventually proceeded through the legal system, leading to the conviction of both McWilliams and Harris for their involvement in Thompson's death, bringing a degree of resolution to a violent crime that had taken a member from the community.
