In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 17-year-old DaMoni Martell Smith, a Black male, was tragically cut short. The events leading to his death began late on a Friday night in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood. It was in the 1700 block of Bonnyville Boulevard where the sound of gunfire pierced the night, though the full gravity of the situation would not become apparent until later.
Louisville Metro Police officers were initially called to the
scene on Bonnyville Boulevard around 12:45 a.m. on March 9, 2024, to investigate reports of a shooting. However, upon their arrival, they were redirected to the 4900 block of Dixie Highway. There, they discovered DaMoni Martell Smith, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the death of DaMoni Martell Smith. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting, and no arrests have been announced. The police have appealed to the community for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact their anonymous tip line as they continue to seek answers and justice for the teenager whose life was abruptly ended.
