Matthews Police Department and other emergency responders arrived at the Breckenridge Lane apartment complex around 11:10 p.m. to find two victims of the shooting.
Despite the efforts of police officers to render aid, Shamone Haggard succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that his death was a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds. An 18-year-old woman who was with Haggard was also shot during the incident. She was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and survived. The relationship between Haggard and the young woman has not been publicly disclosed by authorities.
In the aftermath of the shooting, family and friends remembered Haggard as a devoted father to his three children, a loving husband, and a man with a genuine soul who was always willing to help others.
