In the early evening of August 21, 2021, tragedy struck at an apartment complex in the Fern Creek neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, where William Woods Jr., a 28-year-old Black male, was fatally shot. The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at the Park at Hurstbourne apartments on Oxford Place at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Woods, who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity and the cause of death. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials began their investigation into the homicide.
Despite their efforts, authorities did not immediately identify any suspects in connection with the shooting. The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
