In the early morning hours of December 23, 2021, in Louisville, Kentucky, a violent encounter unfolded in the parking lot of a Waffle House on Bardstown Road that would ultimately claim the life of Rodrickus Rashawn Malone. That morning, Louisville Metro Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at the restaurant, but upon arrival, they found no victim.
A short time later, another call led them to Avalon Garden Drive, over three miles away, where they discovered Malone inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that he had been shot at the Waffle House and had driven himself from the scene before he was found.
Emergency services transported Malone to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. He was a 31-year-old Black male. Despite medical efforts, Rodrickus Rashawn Malone succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed that his death was the result of the gunshot wound he sustained in the incident five days prior.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with Malone's death. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact them through their anonymous tip line as they continue to seek answers in this open homicide case.
