In the late autumn of 2020, the city of Louisville, Kentucky, was rocked by a violent crime that cut short the life of 50-year-old Rocky Seibert. On the morning of November 21st, he was discovered on a sidewalk along River Road, near the intersection of North Sixth Street, the victim of a fatal shooting. The Jefferson County Coroner's office would later confirm that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds.
This tragic event set in motion a homicide investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department as they began the arduous task of piecing together the final moments of his life and bringing those responsible to justice.
The investigation into the death of the male victim led authorities to two teenage suspects, 19-year-olds Malik Jenkins and Kelvonnie Harris. Court documents revealed a chilling sequence of events, alleging that the duo, along with accomplices, were involved in another shooting on North 23rd Street prior to the incident on River Road. Police were able to connect the shell casings from both crime scenes, a crucial piece of evidence that linked the suspects to Seibert's death. According to court records, Harris admitted to police that he and several others had been in an altercation with Seibert before the shooting occurred.
In the months and years that followed, the legal process unfolded, ultimately leading to convictions for those involved. Malik Jenkins pleaded guilty to manslaughter, wanton endangerment, and assault, receiving a 15-year prison sentence for his role in the crime. Kelvonnie Harris faced a more severe penalty, as he was also implicated in a separate murder. For his involvement in both cases, Harris was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison. Another individual, Jaliyah Allen, was also charged in connection with the robbery and murder of Rocky Seibert, bringing a measure of closure to a case that began with a grim discovery on a city sidewalk.
