On Saturday, December 13, 2025, the life of Kalend Ki'Lee Hinkle, a 25-year-old African American male from Louisville, Kentucky, came to a tragic and sudden end due to gun violence. The incident occurred in the Algonquin neighborhood of west Louisville, an area where police officers responded to reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, authorities discovered Kalend who had sustained fatal injuries.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead, leaving his family and community to grapple with the heartbreak of his untimely departure.
Known affectionately to his loved ones as Bubba or KennKenn, Kalend was born in Louisville and had built a life defined by his vibrant spirit and dedication to others. He was a graduate of the Jefferson County Public School system, having attended Atherton High School and Iroquois High School, and had pursued a career in healthcare. He worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at UofL Hospital and had previously served at Jewish Hospital, a role that highlighted his compassionate nature. Beyond his professional life, Kalend was described as a fun-loving "influencer" who expressed himself through dance and creative videos, and he was known for his deep love for his family, including his parents Diane D. Hickman and Oliver T. Hinkle Sr., and his close bond with his sister.
As of the days following the shooting, the Louisville Metro Police Department had not announced any arrests in connection with Kalend's death. Homicide detectives continued their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal event in the Algonquin neighborhood, seeking information from the public to identify any suspects involved. While the search for justice remained ongoing, Kalend's family and friends gathered to honor his memory, holding a visitation and funeral service just days before the Christmas holiday, celebrating a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that he left behind.
