In the California neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, a 52-year-old Black/African American man named Robert William Crosson Jr. was spending a quiet evening with his uncle on May 29, 2024. He was relaxing and watching old Michael Jordan basketball highlights on television inside his uncle's home on Grand Avenue. The ordinary evening was shattered by the sound of two gunshots.
Those bullets, believed to be strays, penetrated the front door of the residence and tragically struck Crosson.
His uncle, Dewayne DeBerry, heard the shots and rushed to the front room to find his nephew already deceased. The senseless act of violence cut short the life of a man who his family said was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's investigation into the shooting suggested that the shots were fired from a distance, as no shell casings were recovered at the immediate scene. As of now, the person or persons responsible for firing the fatal shots remain unknown, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The death of Robert William Crosson Jr. left his family, including his son and granddaughter, seeking justice and mourning the sudden and profound loss of a loved one to gun violence.
