In the late hours of a Saturday night in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, a dispute that began inside a local business tragically escalated, spilling out onto the street and culminating in a burst of gunfire. The chaotic scene on May 13, 2023, left four individuals wounded and one young man, 22-year-old Demontae Jakwan Tyreek Marshall, fatally injured. Emergency services responded to the scene around 11 p.m., finding two men and two women with gunshot wounds.
A short distance away, they discovered Marshall, also suffering from a gunshot wound.
All five victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. While the four other victims were listed in conditions ranging from stable to critical, Demontae Marshall succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later officially identified him as the sole fatality of the violent encounter. The address provided by the coroner's office corresponded with that of a pizza and pasta restaurant in the area.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Louisville Metro Police Department homicide detectives launched an investigation into the incident. At the time, authorities stated that the shooting stemmed from the initial altercation within the business. However, no arrests were immediately made in connection with the shooting, and law enforcement officials did not release any information regarding potential suspects.
