In Louisville, Kentucky, a young man's life was cut tragically short on the evening of March 26, 2021. Savon Adrian Fella Murphy, a 20-year-old male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that erupted outside a Wing Station restaurant in the Shively neighborhood. The incident, which took place around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Crums Lane and Park Row Drive, also left a 16-year-old girl with gunshot wounds, though she was expected to survive.
According to police, the violence stemmed
from an altercation between two customers inside the restaurant. Events escalated quickly, spilling out into the street where Savon Murphy was shot multiple times. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A third person, a man who was working in the vicinity, was grazed by a stray bullet.
In the days that followed, Shively Police identified a suspect in the shooting. On March 31, 2021, 20-year-old Darius Calloway Jr. was arrested and charged with one count of murder and two counts of assault in connection with the incident. Authorities were reportedly able to identify Calloway after a witness at the scene found a bank card believed to belong to the shooter and turned it over to the police. This, combined with surveillance footage from the area, led to Calloway's apprehension.
During legal proceedings, an attorney for Darius Calloway Jr. claimed that the shooting was an act of self-defense, suggesting a different narrative to the events that transpired that fatal evening. Calloway was held in Louisville Metro Corrections as the case against him moved forward.
