In the autumn of 2022, a life was abruptly cut short on a Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. Okwane Thornton, a 27-year-old Black male, was at the intersection of Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane in the St. Denis neighborhood on October 30th when violence erupted. Gunshots shattered the afternoon calm, and when police responded to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m., they found Thornton suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel were unable to save him, and the
Jefferson County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene. The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into the shooting. Detectives canvassed the area and conducted interviews in an effort to piece together the events that led to Thornton's death and to identify all individuals who were involved.
In the days following the incident, the investigation continued, but authorities did not publicly name any suspects or make any arrests in connection with the homicide. The case remains an open and active investigation.
