In the autumn of 2022, a life was abruptly cut short on a Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. Okwane Thornton, a 27-year-old Black male, was at the intersection of Cane Run Road and Rockford Lane in the St. Denis neighborhood on October 30th when violence erupted. Gunshots shattered the afternoon calm, and when police responded to the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m., they found Thornton suffering from gunshot wounds.
