In the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, the life of 46-year-old Duan Calloway Sr. was cut short on the evening of Thursday, January 7, 2021. A Black male known in his community, Calloway was fatally shot in the 200 block of Cecil Avenue. First responders found him at the scene and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is handling the ongoing investigation into Calloway's death. In the months following the shooting, his wife, Georgetta Calloway, spoke of her husband as a man dedicated to revitalizing properties in west Louisville and providing new housing opportunities for families. She described his purpose in life as serving and helping others. Two months after his death, she made a public plea for answers, stating that the person responsible for her husband's murder was still at large and emphasizing the need for community support in finding who was responsible.
As of now, the investigation into Duan Calloway's murder remains open. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case is listed on the Louisville Metro Police Department's list of open homicides from 2021. Authorities have continued to ask for anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
