Austin Smith, a 27-year-old male, tragically lost his life on June 30, 2019, in Huffman, Texas. The incident occurred following a double date with two couples. Smith and his girlfriend had gone "mudding" with another couple, Colby Rigsby and his girlfriend. After returning to Rigsby's home, an argument erupted between Rigsby and his girlfriend, which escalated into a physical altercation involving Smith.

Smith intervened in the dispute, and the situation took a deadly turn when Rigsby retrieved a gun from his home. Smith, his girlfriend, and Rigsby's girlfriend left the scene, but Smith returned later to retrieve his four-wheeler. It was during this time that Rigsby allegedly shot Smith in the driveway of the home. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Smith dead from a gunshot wound. Rigsby, who was identified as the shooter, was found dead inside his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident as a murder-suicide. The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Homicide Unit. The tragic event highlighted the dangers of escalating conflicts and the devastating consequences that can result from them.
