In Louisville, Kentucky, a 28-year-old male named Jimmy Martin Webb was known for his motto, 'If you can't find a good person, be one!' He was a dedicated and hardworking man, a perfectionist who applied attention to detail in all he did. Beyond his work ethic, he was a loving and caring individual, always there for those he held close. His life, however, was cut short on Monday, July 26, 2021, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends.
On that fateful day, an argument with a
coworker named Eric Deshields at their place of employment, Material Handling Systems, escalated. The two men agreed to settle their differences in the parking lot during a break. As the confrontation unfolded, Deshields retrieved a firearm from his vehicle. While Webb was walking away, Deshields shot him multiple times. He then stood over Webb's body and fired additional shots.
Following the shooting, Eric Deshields was arrested and charged with murder. In the ensuing legal proceedings, he pleaded guilty but mentally ill. It was determined that while he was suffering from a mental illness at the time of the incident, he was not considered legally insane. Deshields was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of Jimmy Martin Webb. He will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man known for his kindness and devotion to his loved ones.
