In the upscale area of Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada, 54-year-old Hispanic/Latino male, Adrian Longoria, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to his chest on the evening of November 20, 2023. Henderson Police Department officers responded to a call at 6:40 p.m. on Montelago Boulevard, where Longoria was pronounced dead at the scene. The subsequent investigation led to the swift arrest of 25-year-old Devonte James Bowman the following day.
Bowman confessed to the shooting, alleging
that the act was a result of a prior sexual assault by Longoria. According to Bowman's account to the police, he had gone to Longoria's condominium to confront him about the alleged assault. He claimed to have brought a handgun for protection and shot Longoria in the chest when Longoria approached him while yelling. Bowman stated that weeks before the shooting, he had been sexually assaulted by Longoria after blacking out in a jacuzzi at Longoria's residence. He further claimed to have undergone a sexual assault nurse examination following the alleged incident. Text messages found on Longoria's phone reportedly indicated a contentious relationship between the two men, involving threats of legal action.
Following the shooting, Bowman drove to a car dealership, fired shots into his own vehicle, and then fled to his girlfriend's apartment, where he was taken into custody. Bowman has been charged with open murder with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. The investigation into the case remains open, and authorities have not released further information regarding the credibility of Bowman's sexual assault allegations.
