In the heart of Louisville, Kentucky, a life full of promise was tragically cut short on May 4, 2024. Jeffery Wayne Wilson, a 29-year-old Black male, was found in an alley behind Preston Street in the Shelby Park neighborhood, the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred in the late afternoon, just before 4:30 p.m., casting a somber shadow over the city on what was also Derby Day.
When first responders arrived at the scene in the 1300 block of Preston Street, near East Ormsby Avenue, they discovered Wilson had already succumbed to his injuries.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on January 24, 1995, Jeffery was known for his vibrant spirit and the deep love he held for his family, especially his son. Those who knew him described a man with an infectious sense of humor, unwavering kindness, and profound loyalty. His passions were many, including basketball, a game he spent countless hours playing at Perrin Park in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He also possessed a creative soul, expressing himself through music by crafting beats and lyrics, as well as through visual arts. His sudden and violent death has left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the shooting that led to Jeffery Wayne Wilson's untimely death. At this time, however, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the homicide. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public to bring those responsible for this act of violence to justice. No arrests have been made in the case.
