In the early morning hours of July 27, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Jamarious Carter, a Black male, was tragically cut short in what police have described as a targeted act of violence. Carter was at his home located in the 2100 block of South Palisade in Wichita, Kansas, with several friends when the fatal incident occurred. An unknown individual, or individuals, stealthily entered his backyard and fired multiple shots into the house through a window.
The shooting was reported to
authorities around 3 a.m. Carter was struck in the neck by the gunfire. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Jamarious Carter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on July 28, 2018.
Wichita police officials stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence, suggesting that Carter was the intended target. Following the incident, the suspect or suspects were reported to have fled the scene on foot. The case was logged as the 32nd homicide in Wichita for that year.
To date, the homicide of Jamarious Carter remains unsolved. His case is now under the purview of the Wichita Police Department's Cold Case Unit. Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
