On a late Thursday night in April 2017, the life of 22-year-old Brandon Nelson, a White male, was tragically cut short in Wichita, Kansas. Nelson was in the parking lot of the Village Park at Kingsborough apartments, where he lived, when a car pulled into the lot. A single gunshot shattered the evening quiet, and Nelson was struck. Police were called to the 2700 block of South Seneca, where they discovered Nelson's body in the parking lot.
The investigation into the shooting led Wichita
police to two suspects. The day after the incident, two men from Wichita were taken into custody and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail in connection with the fatal shooting. The arrested individuals were identified as 21-year-old Dawson Slater and 22-year-old Zachary Scogin. Authorities reported that one of the individuals inside the vehicle that had entered the parking lot fired the shot that killed Nelson as he was standing there.
