In the summer of 2019, the life of 16-year-old Joaquin Aj McKinney was tragically cut short in a drive-by shooting in Topeka, Kansas. A student at Topeka High, McKinney was known for his passion for creating music and was a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes, Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. His death on July 25, 2019, prompted a swift investigation by local law enforcement, leading to the identification and eventual charging of several teenagers in connection with the fatal shooting.
