On April 9, 2017, Zaan Scott, a 24-year-old swim coach from Washington, D.C., was shot during a robbery attempt in Southeast Washington. Scott, who worked at the Eastern Market pool, was on his way home from swim lessons when he was confronted by Christopher Green, a 32-year-old man from Washington, D.C. Green attempted to rob Scott at gunpoint, resulting in Scott being shot. The incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on the 1300 block of Southern Avenue, SE.
