In the spring of 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the afternoon calm in a residential neighborhood of Southeast Washington, D.C., claiming the life of Devante Moody. On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 4400 block of G Street, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 1:40 p.m., they discovered 22-year-old Devante Moody suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported him to a local hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
For several months, the investigation into the death of the young Southeast D.C. man continued. Then, in the fall of that same year, a breakthrough was made in the case. Detectives from the Homicide Branch identified a suspect, leading to an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting.
On Wednesday, November 27, 2019, the Metropolitan Police Department announced that they had taken 18-year-old Antwuan Roach, of Southwest, D.C., into custody. Roach was subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged role in the shooting death of Devante Moody. The arrest brought a measure of progress to an investigation that had been ongoing for nearly seven months, offering a potential answer to the violence that had taken a young life.
