In the late summer of 2018, the life of a young Washington, D.C. man was cut short in a burst of gunfire that marked a grim milestone for the city. Travis Barksdale, a 25-year-old male, was shot and killed shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 23, 2018. The fatal shooting occurred in the 600 block of Evarts Street NE, just around the corner from his home in the Edgewood community. His death was the city's 100th homicide of that year.
