On the evening of March 22, 2023, Jalen Dyer, a 21-year-old male from Washington, D.C., was shot and killed in the 4300 block of 3rd Street, Southeast. The shooting, which also claimed the life of 20-year-old Tariq Richardson, is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department as a double homicide. At approximately 7:27 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered both men suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were transported to a local hospital where they were both pronounced dead.
Jalen Dyer was described by his uncle as a playful and loving young man who was devoted to his family. He was anticipating the birth of his child and had a gender-reveal party scheduled for just a week and a half after he was killed. The family was expecting a boy. His uncle also mentioned that at times, Jalen would associate with the 'wrong crowd.'
