In the evening hours of Saturday, May 17, 2025, the sound of gunfire disrupted the quiet of a residential neighborhood in Southwest Washington, D.C. Officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Irvington Street, Southwest, at approximately 8:23 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man, 32-year-old Christopher Rashad Riles, of Southwest, D.C., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and Mr. Riles was transported to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The incident took place on a residential street in an area with apartment complexes and schools nearby. Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
As of the days immediately following the incident, no arrests had been made, and authorities had not released any information regarding a potential suspect, suspects, or a motive for the shooting.
