In the pre-dawn hours of a Saturday in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the quiet of a Southeast neighborhood. On March 12, 2022, officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District were dispatched to the 1900 block of Minnesota Avenue, Southeast, following a report of a shooting. They arrived around 2:59 a.m. to find a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel who responded to the scene determined that the victim showed no signs of life.
The man, a resident of Southeast, D.C., was identified as 47-year-old Marco Thomas. His body was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of Mr. Thomas. In an effort to gain more information, the department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. At this time, no information regarding any arrests or potential suspects has been released to the public. The investigation into the death of Marco Thomas remains ongoing as authorities appeal to the community for assistance.
