In the early hours of May 1, 2015, the life of 21-year-old Gregory McBryde, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Northwest Washington, D.C. At approximately 12:52 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the sound of gunshots in the 1300 block of Harvard Street, NW. Upon arrival, they discovered McBryde suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident unfolded in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, a place McBryde called home. His mother, Rochica McBryde, recounted the harrowing experience of hearing the gunshots and frantically trying to contact her son, only to be met with silence. Shortly after, her fears were realized when friends of her son came to her door with the devastating news.
The investigation into McBryde's death was launched immediately, with detectives from the MPD's Homicide Branch taking the lead. Despite their efforts, a motive for the shooting has not been determined, and police have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide.
In the years following his death, McBryde's family has continued to seek answers and justice. The Metropolitan Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
