In the autumn of 2018, a quiet residential street in Northeast Washington, D.C. became the scene of a brazen and violent crime that claimed the life of 59-year-old Ezequiel Fernando Jimenez Pinto. On the afternoon of Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at approximately 1:18 p.m., gunshots rang out in the 1300 block of D Street, NE. When police arrived, they discovered Jimenez Pinto inside a car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that it was a targeted attack. Surveillance video showed a champagne-colored SUV pull up alongside the car Jimenez Pinto was sitting in. An occupant of the SUV then opened fire, firing seven bullets into the vehicle before the SUV sped away. At the time of the shooting, Jimenez Pinto was sitting in a car he had borrowed from a neighbor.
Despite the targeted nature of the attack, the motive behind the killing of the man, who was a registered respiratory therapist, remains a mystery to both his community and law enforcement. Neighbors were left baffled by the crime, and police acknowledged the bizarre nature of the murder.
