In the early morning hours of February 4, 2023, the life of 32-year-old Gregory Wilkins, a Black male from Washington, D.C., was tragically cut short. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 5:04 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fifth District arrived at an apartment in the 1100 block of 21st Place, Northeast. Inside, they discovered Wilkins unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate response from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Wilkins showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the Northeast D.C. resident quickly pointed to a domestic dispute. On the same day as the shooting, police arrested 27-year-old Diamond Stevenson, also a resident of Northeast D.C. Stevenson was subsequently charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed in connection with Wilkins's death.
Following her arrest, Diamond Stevenson was arraigned in DC Superior Court, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges against her, which include second-degree murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Legal proceedings are ongoing, with court dates set to address the tragic death of Gregory Wilkins.
