In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 39-year-old Henry Hackett was tragically cut short. On June 3, 2020, in the 2700 block of Langston Place, Southeast, Hackett, a resident of Suitland, Maryland, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The incident occurred at approximately 10:26 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Seventh District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department. Despite the immediate attention of D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services and their efforts to save him at a local hospital, Hackett succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. He was a male.
The investigation into the homicide quickly led to a suspect. Detectives identified 46-year-old Raymond Davis, of Southeast, D.C., as the individual allegedly responsible for the fatal shooting. A D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant was issued, and on the same day as the incident, Davis was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder while armed. The case against him was built on significant evidence, including surveillance footage that captured a black sedan, matching the license plate of Davis's car, pulling into the parking lot shortly before the shooting. The footage showed a person exiting the vehicle and shooting Hackett several times.
Further investigation revealed that about an hour after the shooting, Davis was found approximately a mile from the crime scene inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. A search of his car uncovered a 9mm handgun and a box of ammunition. Forensic analysis later confirmed that the handgun found in Davis's possession was the weapon used to kill Henry Hackett, as the shell casings from the scene matched the firearm. The ammunition in the car was also the same brand as the casings found. During a court hearing, it was determined that there was enough evidence for the murder case to proceed to trial, and Raymond Davis was held at the D.C. Jail.
