In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 36-year-old Ryan Matthews was tragically cut short. On May 18, 2025, at approximately 9:48 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the night in the 4600 block of Benning Road, Southeast. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Sixth District arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

efforts, Ryan Matthews was pronounced dead at the scene. In the wake of the shooting, another adult male victim was discovered. He had sustained gunshot wounds in the same incident and had transported himself to a local hospital. His injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening.
