On August 18, 2019, Corey Wells, a 40-year-old resident of Capitol Heights, MD, was fatally shot in the 1500 block of 45th Street, Northeast, Washington, DC. The incident occurred around 10:00 pm when members of the Sixth District responded to reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers found Wells unconscious and suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite being transported to a local hospital, Wells succumbed to his injuries.
