In the late hours of a summer Friday in Washington, D.C., the life of Willie Lorenzo Parker III came to a violent end. On July 9, 2021, the 45-year-old man was in the 1400 block of 41st Street, Southeast, when gunfire erupted at approximately 10:59 p.m. Officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of the sound of gunshots and arrived to find a grim scene.
Parker was discovered unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were called to the location, but despite their efforts, Parker showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked a somber milestone for the city, as it was reported to be the 100th homicide of the year in the District of Columbia. The incident also left two other men wounded. One was found at the scene with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital. A third victim, also suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, was located at a hospital shortly after.
