In the early evening of Monday, June 2, 2025, the Trinidad neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., was disrupted by the sound of gunfire. Just before 8:00 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Fifth District were dispatched to the rear of the 1200 block of Raum Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man on the ground suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The man was identified as 33-year-old Kalil Jerald
Brown of Northeast, D.C. Emergency services personnel from DC Fire and EMS quickly arrived on the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention and all life-saving efforts, the injuries proved to be too severe. Kalil Jerald Brown succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department has opened a homicide investigation, which remains active and ongoing. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive for the violence that ended Mr. Brown's life. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The police have appealed to the public for any information regarding the shooting and have offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
