In the early morning hours of Sunday, September 11, 2022, the sound of gunshots echoed through the 700 block of T Street, Northwest in Washington, D.C. Responding to the disturbance at approximately 4:13 a.m., members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Third District discovered a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man, identified as 50-year-old Stephon Jenkins, a Black/African American male, was found unresponsive at the scene.
Despite the immediate response of DC Fire
and Emergency Medical Services, their efforts to save his life were unsuccessful. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene and was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An investigation into the homicide was promptly launched by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch.
As detectives pieced together the events of that tragic morning, they were able to identify a suspect. On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, members of the Criminal Apprehension Unit arrested 36-year-old Christopher Clanton of Northeast, D.C. Clanton was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder-Felony Murder in connection with the shooting death of Stephon Jenkins. The case remains under investigation.
