On January 29, 1919, Ben Sen Wu, an undersecretary of the Chinese Educational Mission, was found dead in Washington, D.C., along with two other members of the Mission, Dr. Theodore T. Wong and C. H. Hsie. The three men were discovered in the mission house located in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood. The scene was gruesome, with overturned furniture, shattered bulbs, and bloodstains. All three victims had gunshot wounds, and a .32 caliber revolver, which belonged to Wu, was found at the scene.
