In the pre-dawn hours of Saturday, April 13, 2024, a grim discovery was made at the intersection of Stanton Road and Mississippi Avenue in Southeast Washington, D.C. A Metropolitan Police Department officer on patrol happened upon a vehicle that was curiously and partially parked on the sidewalk. Inside, the officer found 35-year-old Christian Elsberry, a Black male from Clinton, Maryland, unconscious and not breathing.
It was approximately 4:12 a.m.
Elsberry had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the quick response of DC Fire and EMS personnel to the scene, there were no signs of life, and he was pronounced dead at the location. The tragic event cut short the life of the young man, leaving behind questions and a community searching for answers.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department are actively investigating the fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive in the killing of Christian Elsberry. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
In an effort to bring justice for Elsberry, the police department is seeking assistance from the public. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward as they continue to piece together the events that led to the untimely death.
