In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in the nation's capital, the life of a young man was tragically cut short. Diallo Wright, a 23-year-old Black male, was shot and killed on August 1, 2023, in the 3100 block of 16th Street, Northwest. The incident occurred at approximately 1:02 AM in Washington, D.C., prompting a response from the Metropolitan Police Department's Third District officers who arrived at the scene to find a male suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services
were dispatched to the location and quickly transported Wright to a nearby hospital. Despite the life-saving efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The case was immediately classified as a homicide, and the investigation was handed over to the department's Homicide Branch.
