In the late afternoon of December 23, 2019, tragedy struck in the 4200 block of 4th Street SE in Washington, D.C. It was there that 27-year-old Tyshaun L. Turner, a Black/African American male, was shot and killed. The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m., also left another individual with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported both victims to a local hospital, but Turner ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Tyshaun Turner
was a native of Washington D.C., residing in Ward 8, and was a father. He was a solar installer for New Columbia Solar, a position he came into through the 'Solar Works' program by Grid Alternatives. Known for his passion for renewable energy, Turner was dedicated to bringing these opportunities to low-income communities in Wards 7 and 8. His commitment to his work extended to advocacy; he had testified before the D.C. City Council in support of the Clean Energy DC Act. His employer remembered him as someone who embodied the positive spirit of those seeking to better themselves and their community in the District of Columbia.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide of Tyshaun L. Turner. To date, the case remains unsolved, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered by the police for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for his death. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek justice for Turner and his family.
