In the early evening of Memorial Day, May 25, 2020, the sound of gunshots shattered the calm in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C. When police arrived at the scene in front of an apartment complex around 6:21 p.m., they found two young men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was 22-year-old Christopher Beckwith Jr., a recent graduate of Cardozo Education Campus who lived in the neighborhood.
