In the early evening of Memorial Day, May 25, 2020, the sound of gunshots shattered the calm in the 1400 block of Fairmont Street, Northwest, in Washington, D.C. When police arrived at the scene in front of an apartment complex around 6:21 p.m., they found two young men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was 22-year-old Christopher Beckwith Jr., a recent graduate of Cardozo Education Campus who lived in the neighborhood.
Emergency medical services rushed both men to a
nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Christopher Beckwith Jr. succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim, who was initially in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, was later identified as 19-year-old Willie Leon Brown, Jr. Tragically, he also passed away from his injuries on Saturday, May 30, 2020.
In the wake of the double homicide, the Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation and appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the deaths of the two young men. Authorities have offered a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any suspect or suspects involved in the shooting. However, to date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any individuals sought in connection with the deaths of Christopher Beckwith Jr. and Willie Leon Brown, Jr. The case remains an open investigation.
