In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the quiet of a Southeast neighborhood. On June 15, 2014, a shooting incident unfolded, leaving a trail of bloodshed and a community in mourning. Twenty-year-old Delano Phillips, a Black male, was caught in the barrage of gunfire. and police arrived at the 4200 block of 6th Street, SE, to find Phillips suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries. The two other victims of the shooting were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The death of Delano Phillips marked the 51st homicide in the nation's capital that year, a significant increase from the previous year. The shooting took place near Hendley Elementary School in the Washington Highlands neighborhood.
In the wake of the shooting, the Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the triple shooting and the death of Delano Phillips.
